How voice works
ChatSocket uses WebRTC for peer to peer voice, so audio takes the shortest path between participants. The room handles the signalling, and once connected the audio flows directly. This keeps latency low and the server load minimal.
Controls members get
Push to talk
Hold a key to speak, or switch to open mic if you prefer hands free.
Mute
Mute your microphone with one click. The room sees a muted icon next to your name.
Deafen
Stop hearing the channel without leaving it, useful when you need a quiet moment.
Screen share
Share your whole screen or a single window. Other members watch live in the voice panel.
Volume per person
Adjust the volume of each participant individually, so a loud mic does not drown the channel.
Device picker
Choose which microphone and speaker to use, with a live level meter to confirm they work.
Staff controls
Voice follows the same rank permissions as text chat. You decide which ranks can join voice, which can share their screen and which can mute or remove others from the channel. The permission toggles live in the same panel as every other rank setting.
